Since the 1992 World cup, this is the first time a Round robin format has been used in a world cup where all the team participating teams will face each other at least once in the group stages of the tournament.
So, how will the teams advance to the knock out stages?
Well, this year, all the teams have been put in one group and each and every team will face each other at least once in the tournament. So, the Super 8 stage or Quarter Final matches will be played this year.
The top four teams with the highest points after the end of the group stages will directly qualify for the semi-finals.
What if the points of No.4 & No.5 team on the points table is the same?
The team with the higher Net Run Rate will qualify for the semi-finals!
What if the Net Run Rate us also same between both the teams?
The winner of the head to head match in the league stage will advance for the semi-finals.
What if the head to head match in the league stage ended up in a tie?
The team at a higher position in the seeding between both the teams will advance to the semi-finals.
So when exactly can we see a super over?
A super over will be played in the knockout stages, i.e. Semi-finals and the final.
If the semi-final match ends up in a tie, a super over will be played to decide a winner.
But what if the match gets washed out due to rain on the match day as well as the reserve day?
The team with the higher position on the points table after the group stages will advance to the final of Cricket World Cup 2019.
