Eden Gardens, Kolkata
GROUND AND PITCH REPORT:
The bowlers at the Eden have faced the “due factor” and the ground has been a run-feast with lots of high scores being seen this year on this ground.
When we talk about the average scores on this ground, it’s really high. In the four matches played here, the average score has been 193 and two times the score has gone past 200!
Only 53 wickets have fallen on this wicket in total. So on average 4.5 wickets have fallen in an innings. So it hasn’t been the best ground for the bowlers so far this season.
TEAMS HEAD TO HEAD:
KKR haven’t defeated MI since 2015. Now that’s a huge psychological advantage for Mumbai Indians and they are also coming into the match with a win under their belt and their opposition has lost 6 matches in a row.
TOP PERFORMERS IN HEAD TO HEAD MATCHES:
Rohit Sharma just loves playing against KKR. He has scored 641 runs in head to head matches which is almost 300 runs more than the 2nd best (Gautam Gambhir) in the list.
Sunil Narine has taken 19 wickets in head to head matches against MI which is the most for any bowler followed by Lasith Malinga with 17 wickets for MI.
Rohit Sharma has the top three highest scores in head to head matches that is 109 *, 98* and 84*.
KKR have lost their last 4 matches at home.
Mumbai Indians are sitting comfortably at No.2 on the points table and will surely make the playoffs with the form and momentum they are in!
KKR, however, are in the worst possible position with losing their last 6 matches and sitting at No.6 with only 4 wins out of 11 matches. In order to make it to the playoffs, it’s a do or die situation for them.
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:
Mumbai Indians may bring in an extra pacer in McClenaghan / Hendricks / Behrendoff in place of Evin Lewis, keeping the conditions in mind.
If Evin Lewis misses out, then Anukul Roy will also miss out for an extra batsman despite his good performance.
KKR have a lot of things to consider but one big positive from the last match was the performance of their spinners as both Narine and Chawla were economical and took wickets. Kuldeep will most probably make his comeback into the side.
If Andre Russell’s injury is severe then he may also miss out to Joe Denly or a fast bowler considering the track’s nature.
